The Land in Klamath county is rich in agriculture and timber.
Demographics: As of 2000, there
are 63,775 people living in the county. 87% of the population is white.
History: The region was
inhabited by Native Indians for thousands of years. White settlement began in the 1800's. During that time, the two cultures
often clashed, leading to the Modoc war of 1872. The whites won that war and the Klamath County was created. The Indians were
given reservation land. Some Indians live there till this day.
Economy: Big companies such as Merle West Medical Center,
Jeld-Wen provide many of the area jobs. The economy also thrives on migration from California. Many Californians come in search
of cheap housing, retirement and the beautiful scenery. Klamath is also a place for outdoor recreation. Tourism industry thrives
from activities such as hiking, hunting and world class fishing.
